After winning the Gospel Artiste of the Year at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA), Superintendent Kofi Sarpong seems to be “spreading his wings” to other international awards.
SP. Kofi Sarpong, has been nominated for the Gospel Artiste of the Year Award category at the first annual Ghana Music Awards UK slated for November 5 at Gaumont Palace, London.
Kofi Sarpong will have a strong competition from the likes of Obaapa Christy, Nicholas Omane Acheampong, Joe Mettle, Patience Nyarko and Preachers in the Gospel Artiste of the Year category.
That is not all, he faces another “rivalry” in the Best Gospel Song category from Kofi Gyan’s Yoboyo, Obaapa Christy’s Hyebre Sesafo, Patience Nyarko’s Wafom Kwan and Aposor from Nicholas Omane Acheampong.
The awards ceremony is being organised to celebrate and appreciate pioneers of Ghanaian music and to reward individuals who, in diverse ways, have raised the standard of Ghanaian music in the country.
The gospel musician last year dropped his third music album titled ‘I Believe’ which featured Joyce Blessing. The album contains eleven tracks which include ‘Woye Nyame’, ‘Hour By This Time’, ‘Afutusem’, among others.
“I’m particularly happy with this nominations because it’s an indication that my toil isn’t in vain. But that can only be complete when I win both awards which I know won’t be easy because all the nominees are great artistes” Kofi Sarpong said in an interview with media.
“I sincerely hope to come home with the two awards but at this time, I can only wish my contenders well as well. We are all winners irrespective of what the outcome will be,” the African Borborbor artiste added.
In all, 26 categories will be awarded on the night. They include African Artiste of the Year, New Artiste of the Year, UK based Ghanaian Artiste, Best Rapper, Most Popular Song, Album of the Year, Best UK Gospel Song of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, Best Group, Best Highlife Song, Best Hiplife Song, Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year among others.
