Following the success of University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) in the UK, the organisers have announced that UGCY will be launching in Ghana on October 2nd with the finals taking place in March 2016, with a spectacular live performance from MOBO Award winning UK artist Rachel Kerr who doubles as the host for the night.University Gospel Choir of the Year, UGCY, is an unprecedented platform for University Gospel Choirs across the nation to showcase and develop their musical talents on a national scale. In the UK, winners have had the opportunity to perform on grand platforms such as UK’s The X Factor and the Britain’s Got Talent competitions (See the UK website – www.ugcy.co.uk for more information).
In a quest to unearth global talents, LW productions, organizers of UGCY UK have teamed up with Africa’s Premiere Quality Christian Entertainment Company, GospelTown Africa, to spearhead the maiden edition of UGCY- Africa starting from Ghana. UGCY Ghana boasts Dr Joyce Ayree and Mrs Diana Hopson as Patrons.
UGCY Ghana is designed as a reality TV show which will be aired on local TV channel, Viasat 1 TV within a period of 4-6 weeks. The footage will show the various process of the competition right from the Auditions to the Finale held at the National Theatre, Accra in March 2016.The program will be hosted by two well-known faces and the prospective choirs will be judged by four high profile and musically inclined individuals in Ghana and the diaspora.
UGCY Ghana will officially be launched at the World Trade Centre on October 2nd 2015.
Subsequently, all universities across the country will be given the opportunity to partake in the first edition of UGCY-Ghana by entering their details from October 2015 via the UGCYAFRICA.com website.

- November 2015 – Deadline for Submission
- December 2015 – Shortlist Announced
- February 2016 – Boot camp Audition
- March 2016 – Finale
