In a rather interesting turnout of events, one of Ghana’s finest bass player, with the Patchbay band, Philip Acquah, has expressed his disappointment on a supposed act by another Gospel Minister, Naa Mercy.
The said incident, which seems to have created a whole lot of controversy withing the Christian circles on social media, occurred yesterday at Francis Amo’s event dubbed Garment of Worship inside Nungua, where Naa Mercy is claimed to have left the stage with anger.
Philip took to his Facebook account and said:
“I barely react on certain issues but i think minister Naa Mercy Sinclear, you must not condemn your fellow minister in that manner i call this hypocrisy in the highest and totally unacceptable …. Leave judgements in God’s hands…. U left the stage with anger and its a total disrespect to a loyal fan like me…. I love your ministry.. Your voice.. And Songs… But this is a No No.
*If u attended Francis Amos progm this evening you will know what im talking abt….. Disappointed….
A patron of the event, who claims to have seen how the event unfolded, shared his experience with GospelGh saying,
“Kofi Sarpong came to sing that Kofi Kinaata’s OBI NYA W’ AY3 which Naa Mercy was not happy, so she went out and came in after his ministration. When she mounted the stage, She spoke about it but didn’t mention names. People didn’t understand her because they enjoyed the song paa”
Philip, again on Facebook in a description of what happened said:
“SP kofi Sarpong finished his borborbor song followed with a short statement to mean “one shd be thankful for being where you are” and sang verses and choruses of Kofi Kinaata’s Obi nya wo ay3 charged the audience up and left….
After other activities taken place, Minister Naa Mercy was invited to minister and after 16 bars of singing whiles enjoying the ministration Minister stopped the band and rebuked the act by other artistes .. saying we no more in da days of gospel rockshow and that you dont sing any song at all on the alter of God, God is jealous God therefore dont just sing any song your audience wants to hear on his alter, after her speech handed over mic to mc and left the stage without completion of the song
………Obi nya woay3 by Kofi Kinaata is an inspirational song even if you have issue with the song you dont react to it in that way and leave stage with anger as a professional and a minister of Gospel… No No“
In a rather long yet reflective response and call for a cease fire, Naa also via facebook said;
“The only reason why I am writing this is so that anyone who reads what my Brother Philip Acquah posted on his status will be given the chance to ‘judge’ or reason before commenting. And also to stop all those ‘inboxing’ for what happened.
I have painfully come to accept that Facebook and Social Media for that matter is not purely a ‘Christian’ institution. What I mean to say is that, many people from all walks of life are privy to what is said and sadly, more often than not, would like to share their ‘opinions’ no matter how off the subject or irrelevant as it may be. I accept it.
Another reason why I want to put this up is that it’s OK for people to disagree with how things are done. Most especially Spirit led things. As we mature in God, we find that there are many who really do not know God. As a matter of fact, when God is not in a place or a thing, very few people can tell. Above all these, God has given people assignments. If God instructs His servants, he not only gives them the power to execute what has to be done but what he does is that He makes you feel EXACTLY how He is feeling.
Many prophets or people who are gifted with healing will attest to it that, sometimes, God allows you to feel the pain of the people who need His touch. I’m sure most of us have heard of this or at least seen it before.
You see, another reason why I am putting this up is that, over the years, I’ve been branded as ‘judgemental’ but that has not been the issue for me. I don’t want people taking advantage of what has been said to be either disrespectful or unkind to my brother or myself.
I promise to tell you all what happened. I think at least you deserve to know from ‘the horse’s own 👄’
For now, I beg, cease 🔥…
In the morning…. I will explain. BTW, I think that Philip is the best bassist in Ghana. And I really appreciate the kind words you described me with.
As for the rest….we will agree to disagreeGood night.”
So maybe this brings back the subject for debate in recent times, as to what qualifies a song to be a gospel song, and maybe who can sing what and at where.
