Ghana’s gospel music industry has enjoyed a lot of spirit-filled songs from music groups in Ghana. Jane & Bernice, Willie & Mike, Tagoe Sisters, No Tribe, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Soul Winners are good examples of groups who blessed us with good gospel music in their days.
While some of these groups arguably have have gone defunct, some of them occasionally come up with some “singles” or give us good performances on gospel concert shows to remind us of the good old days.
There is however, some deafening silence from one of the best all-male music group since the early 2000s. I talk of the No Tribe group whom I am sure you have not heard from in a while as a ‘group’.
For me, No Tribe was and still remains one of my best music groups. There was no aspect of musical artistry that any other group can beat them to. They were great performers, they had great vocal abilities, soothing instrumentation (of course Nacee was a member) and were absolutely brilliant with every single music they produced.
At the time and even now, there was never a complete “praises ministration” in church without reenacting a song or two from them. Songs like “animuonyam ka nyame”. were commonplace tunes in every church.
It is therefore a source of worry for me and many gospel music lovers, why the group would disintegrate in that manner with absolutely no trace of them again.
Why would Nacee who was undoubtedly the face of the group decide to go solo?
Why would Nacee overlook Lord Bonze for example and go for Ernest Opoku Jnr when he needed a vocalist on the ‘Ye wo Nyame aa ye wo adze” track. And not that Ernest Opoku is not good enough but why not Lord with whom there is a relationship?
Also why was Lord Bonze conspicuously missing when Nacee and friends ministered at the VGMA?
The begging question from these illustrations and the whole “No Tribe” situation is that, what might possibly have caused this split up in a group which is supposed to maintain brotherly love and solve their issues as Christians?
Are members of the group pursuing personal glories at the neglect of the “hunger” of the fan base they built with their collective efforts?
I urge Lord Bonze and Nacee to look beyond their differences if any and come back to fill the void in the gospel music industry created by their absence.
The NO TRIBE we know cannot die off in this fashion.
