VGMA Scraps Gospel Album Of The Year Category

The Board of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), have finally scrapped the Gospel Album of the Year category from this year’s event.
This was disclosed to patrons of the event at a press conference held at World Trade Centre in Accra on Tuesday.
Addressing the media, the board chairman of the VGMA, Nii Aryitey Hammond said, “the category which remains genre specific, would be discontinued”.
He revealed that the board did not get enough albums with a minimum of three hit songs to meet its five nominations per category requirement.
Ayitey Hammond added that as a result, songs from all genres will compete in the Album Of The Year category.
The Board chairman noted that, the trend will continue for another year before a final decision of whether or not to discontinue it.
This year’s event is under the theme; “Let the Music Play” and nominations are expected to be out by Friday, February 26, on the various EIB media platforms. Consequently, all the voting lines will be activated for the public.
This will be followed by a nominee’s party on the same day at Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel to celebrate the nominees. Thereafter, there will be a nominees jam in the Volta Regional Capital, Ho, on Saturday, April 16.
All these will be climaxed by the main show down on Saturday, May 7, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
