Ungrateful gospel artistes belong to sick generation – Cwesi Oteng

Ghanaian contemporary gospel musician, Cwesi Oteng has described gospel artistes who turn their backs on their producers when they become stars as people who belong to a ‘sick generation’.
He told Adom News he believes one good turn deserves another, and it is wrong for some gospel musicians neglect their producers after the producers have invested huge sums of money to make them stars.
The award winning gospel artiste explained that musicians who appreciate the role of their producers succeed in their careers.
‘It is not easy to make a hit, so it is always prudent to stay with a production that helps to make a hit or else your career will suffer later’, he said.
His comment follows recent complaints by some gospel music Producers that they have been relegated to the background by artistes they have nurtured into stardom.
The Chief Executive Officer of CIBEX Music Production, Charles Sarpong was the first in recent times to publicly express his disappointment in an artist he introduced into the limelight, Cecelia Marfo.
He accused her of being ungrateful despite all he had done to make her a household name, saying Cecelia Marfo became “snobbish” as soon as she gained stardom with her maiden hit track, ‘afunumuba’, a song he produced.
Mr. Benjamin K. Mensah, also known as ‘Big Ben’, CEO of Big Men Music Productions also added his voice to the worrying situation and hinted that some producers are discouraged and want to quit because they struggle before they meet their production cost due to piracy so it becomes more depressing when the very artistes they promote also neglect them when times are good.
‘We have family and we can spend that money we spend on these artistes on them but we decide to invest it into the music industry because we believe in the industry even though the market has not been so good of late’ he said.
Cwesi Oteng has advised his fellow musicians to be humble even after they become stars so they can continue to enjoy the kind of support they  receive from their producers.
