Rap chose me – Kingzkid

The Ghanaian gospel music industry is gradually embracing other modern and exotic styles of music that communicate better to the youth.
The youth of today who are exposed to several music forms other than the traditional style of Ghanaian gospel music have boldly found their alternative. They call it urban gospel music. Kingzkid is one of those gospel artistes who is serving his purpose as preacher of the world through rap music.
He has disclosed to citifmonline.com that his choice of doing gospel music in rap is divine.

“It may sound a cliché if I say I didn’t choose rap. Rap chose me but it actually s the truth. Whatever I am doing now was prophesied a decade and a half ago,” he said.

Asked how his style is being received by music lovers and the gospel community, he said because it is a new style, the reception is low but once he is able to affect his target audience with the word of God, he is happy.

“Well, with every new thing, it takes time to penetrate the market and be accepted and what I am doing is no exception. But long ago, I found solace in God’s word in 1 John 5:4 which says that ‘Whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world. It is really from God, it will stand,” he said.

Kingzkid has two albums and two single tracks. The rapper who started mainstream music while in his third year at the Central University indicated that he actually started as a singer before he later decided to do rap.
Although he has a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking and Finance, he says he has never used it to work.
“I am a full time minister of the gospel and international recording artiste,” he stated.
He has done collaborations with Nacee, Joe Mettle, Cwesi Oteng, Kambua from Kenya, Mabongi from South Africa and a lot more.
He has also won awards such as the Best Gospel Music Video of the Year in 2015 4Syte Music Video Awards, Afrobeat Artiste of the Year GXMMA (Birmingham) in 2015, Nominee for Vodafone Ghana Music Awards in 2015, Nominee for Ghana Teen Choice Awards and winner of the Best Collaboration in the 2015 Gospel Town Music Awards.
