New National Gospel Music Awards launched in Kumasi

A national award scheme to honour players in the Ghanaian gospel music industry has been out-doored at a ceremony in Kumasi Tuesday.
The National Gospel Music Awards seeks to recognize and appreciate the contribution of gospel artistes for the contribution to the creative arts sector.
Musicians and other stakeholders who attended the launch expressed excitement for the scheme which they say is long overdue.

Royal Akofena Entertainment and Kumasi Business Unit of Multimedia Group Limited are partnering in the maiden edition of the annual event comes off in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi in October this year.
A long session of questions and answers characterized the launch which attendants described as satisfactory and successful.
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Musicians Union of Ghana, Augustina Addison and other guests were beside themselves with joy for the initiative.
“I am very happy today because this is what we have been waiting for, gospel artiste has been sidelined for a long time when there’s time for awards, but now NGMA has come to motivate us,” Mr Addisson said.
“Moreover I can say the award scheme is credible, transparent and will help unearth talents in the music industry. Kudos to Royal Akofena and Multimedia.”
Event coordinator, Peter Kwabena Dwabeng Sergio, says the awards fill a long-standing vacuum to celebrate gospel musicians.
“This award scheme is purposely to celebrate Gospel artistes in the music industry, because this genre contributes positively to national development but with little recognition.
“They deserve better, they need to be encouraged to spread the gospel to fill the Kingdom of God,” he said.
Mr. Dwabeng believes the genre contributes positively to national development with little recognition.
