More secular artistes for gospel – 'Prophet' Nii

When Nii of Mentor 2 fame announced that he had become born again about three years ago, many were those who believed it was just a flash in the pan and had doubts about his new found faith.
However, the 29-year old musician who is now into gospel music and spends most of his time at church, says he is growing stronger in the Lord and he knows God will use him to win over his colleague secular musicians for Christ.
Nii, real name Joseph Nii Otu Ankrah, said though he is not a pastor, God reveals things about people especially his colleagues doing secular music to him.
Already, he has made some revelations which have come to pass to five of his colleagues whose names he did not want to mention.
“I have actually been in touch with about five of my colleagues doing secular music and none of them denied the revelation I told them about their lives,” he said in an interview with Showbiz last Tuesday at the premises of the Water of Life Ministries, Burkina Taifa, Accra, where he worships.
Nii explained that his colleagues he’s been preaching the word of God to, tell him when the timing is right, they have no option than to serve God.
According to him, though he cannot force anyone to accept God unless he or she is willing to do so, he believes he can win over many of the secular musicians through God who strengthens him.
“I always pray that God uses me to change my friends who are yet to know Him.”
Touching on his life as a born again Christian, Nii who also finished second at the 2008 Project Fame music reality show in Nigeria, said “My life would have been better if I had known God earlier.
“Twenty six years ago, I was in the world doing things that were not pleasing to God. I thank God I have seen the light and there is no going back for me,” Nii, currently putting together his first gospel album said.
Known for songs such as Starter, Munife and Sunshine, Nii , the proud father of a three-year old daughter, said the album titled Revelation features notable artistes such as Edem, Cwesi Oteng and Joe Mettle among others.
When his attention was drawn to the fact that his gospel album may not do well, and likely to suffer the same fate as his predecessor secular musicians who did gospel songs after being born again, Nii who is also a sound engineer said, “I don’t really care whether my gospel songs do well or not. I don’t expect to make money with my gospel album but rather change lives of unbelievers.
“If even one soul is won for the Lord through my works, I will praise the Maker. In fact, all I want Ghanaians to know is that, I want to serve God with the talent I have been blessed with.”
