'Subsidy for Christian Pilgrimage is a waste of money' – Nii Noi

Head of Business Development & Finance of Imperial Motive, Nii Noi, has questioned the relevance of government’s initiative to glide Christians to Israel describing it as a waste of money.
His comment comes in as one of the adverse criticisms following government’s decision to airlift 100 Christians to Israel annually.
The PRO for the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Tally Asiedu revealed in an interview with Odelia Ntiamoah on Sunny Fm’s Christian Entertainment Review that government is committed to subsidizing and coordinating the trip. Meanwhile, he failed to quote any budgeted amount with the reason that the support from government would be technical.
Speaking as a panelist on the show, Nii emphasized that the initiative by government is irrelevant and a clear case of bleeding the public purse. According to him, there is no verse in the Bible that mandates Christians to make a pilgrimage to Israel in order to make it to heaven.
“I don’t think it is necessary. Where in the Bible is it written that Christians should travel to Israel before they go to heaven?” he puzzled. He bemoaned that government officials who will accompany the pilgrims will incur extra costs at the expense of the state.
His comment threads the same tangent with that of president of IMANI GHANA, Franklin Cudjoe who equally believes that the ministry in question has no duties to perform.
Meanwhile, the Ministry [Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs] has thrown more light on the nature of the programme by revealing that interested Christians will pay for their own ticketing and that the involvement of government will be to liaise with the Israeli government to ensure easiness.
To ensure equity and fairness in terms of selection, the Ministry says it has instituted a Committee that constitutes distinguished men of God who will see to the survival of the program.
The government has agreed that the initiative and the agreed fee for the pilgrimage per person is $2,700.
The first batch of Christians to enjoy the facility is set to jet off on July 15, 2017.
