Gospel Musicians These Days Do Not Create Inspiring Songs – Yaw Sarpong

There was a time when becoming a gospel musician, or even a preacher, was a matter of ‘a calling’.
These days, it seems it is simply a matter of money.
It has become a common complaint for a while now, and veteran gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has reiterated that gripe. According to him, whilst in his hey days he had to learn under the best before getting his music out- these days people just churn out any music that has little impact on society.
“You hardly hear inspiring words in gospel songs lately and this is as a result of our new crop of gospel musicians not doing enough research and waiting on God to guide them as to what song to put out,” he said.
“I had to learn from great people in the gospel fraternity before I started coming out songs and it is not surprising Ghanaians loved every album I came out with.
“However, it is not so with the new crop of gospel musicians in recent times”
Yaw Sarpong is a veteran of the Ghanaian music scene, having released over 20 albums, with hit songs such as Waye Awie, Esther, Judas and Yenka Nkyere Agya (Joseph).
