Excellence Does Not Come From Spending 12 Hours In Prayer Meetings And All-night Sessions- UG Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oduro

As newly admitted students for the 2016/2017 academic year begin their academic journey at the University of Ghana, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has entreated them to strive for excellence.
This, he said can be achieved by dint of hard work and discipline, and not spending 24 hours a day in the library or spending 12 hours a day in prayer meetings and in all-night sessions.
“Excellence does not come from spending 24 hours in the library neither does it come from spending 12 hours a day in prayer meetings and in all-night sessions,” he told freshmen and women at the 2016 matriculation ceremony held over the weekend at the Athletics Oval on the University campus.
He cautioned the students that spending time on entertainment by devoting all their energies in organising hall weeks and other events will not lead them to excellence.
“The time you spend on your books has to be balanced with your social engagements and other forms of social learning,” he said.
According to him, at any institution like University of Ghana, students achieve excellence by having the right life balance.
He encouraged the freshers to take inspirations from those who are ahead of them and work hard to attain laurels for themselves, the University and the nation at large.
“I assure you, if you do these, your days in the University shall be happy and fruitful,” he added.
