Chase ‘greedy pastors’ for royalties – Celestine Donkor to GHAMRO

Celestine Donkor has encouraged Ghana Music rights organization (GHAMRO), to chase our Churches and the leaders for musicians’ royalties.
According to her, ‘greedy pastors’ continue paying musicians peanuts whenever they’re invited for Church shows and programmes. Speaking at a media interview, Celestine Donkor said she mostly walks home empty anytime she ministers for churches, since she shares her honorarium among her eight-member band.
The singer also disclosed that, despite the lavishing lifestyle of these pastors, they pay many musicians a paltry GHc 2,000 as honorarium, which is nowhere close to what secular musicians receive from their shows.
Angry Celestine stated categorically that, many pastors and churches preach on giving yet they are stingy when it comes to showing same to gospel artiste. To her, GHAMRO should go all out there and smoke out these Churches for music royalties.

“This royalty is an opportunity for the church to compensate us in a way. The church preaches giving and I want them to see it as a channel to give to the gospel artistes. I see nothing wrong with it if they pay royalties since its all part of giving”, she insisted.

Celestine was emphatic that, she was only concerned about gospel artistes who have retired broke, citing legendary gospel musician, Comfort Annor.
